We’ve recently relocated to new offices in Peterborough and there’s no room in our new photographic studio for our previous studio tank.

So, rather than chucking it or selling it, we thought we’d give it away to one of you.

It’s a 100 x 45 x 45cm Aquariums Ltd all glass tank with glass cabinet and an OptiWhite front, and currently has a 3D background siliconed in place from its prior use in our Sri Lanka biotope series.

If you’d like the tank, for free, please drop us a line at editorial@practicalfishkeeping.co.uk and we’ll randomly select a winner later today.

If you are picked you must be able to arrange collection of the tank yourself (two strong lads with van required) and it must be taken away within the next week as our former office is being cleared.

Good luck!

I’ve been reading this blog once a while and they’re giving away their studio aquarium. If you want this piece of art, react fast!

Setting up a fully functional aquarium does not merely require a fish tank and a stand. There are a few accessories you need to set up, and among the most important are fish tank heaters. Aquarium heaters help maintain the right temperature in the water, which is important if you want your fish and aquatic plants to thrive in an ideal environment.

There are many reasons why fish tanks need the most appropriate types of heaters. During cold weather, the temperature in the water also drops, and this is when your aquarium needs heating the most. In natural environments, such as rivers and lakes, the water temperature typically ranges from 18 to 30 degrees Celsius. A fish tank temperature of 25 to 27 degrees Celsius is normally fine for most fish species.

The heating in your fish tank should be properly distributed throughout, so you need to pick a heating device that fits the requirements of your tank. You also need to avoid placing a high wattage aquarium heater in a small fish tank, so you can keep the temperature at the ideal levels. Likewise, if you have a bigger tank, choose a heater that can accommodate its needs better.

A wall fish tank can be expensive, that’s a fact. If you’d want an exclusive, custom made fish tank, you would easily pay a few $1000 for it. But this doesn’t mean that every wall fish tank is expensive.

To get your hands on a cheaper fish tank, you need to pay attention to a few things. The 4 most important things you need to pay attention to if you want a low budget wall fish tank are these:

  1. Buy a glass wall fish tank. The reason behind this is simple. Glass wall fish tanks are cheaper than acrylic fish tanks. This is because glass is easier to ship and it requires fewer specialized tools. Another great thing about glass fish tanks is that they are perfect for small to medium fish tanks and it’s very difficult to scratch glass.
  2. Have a low budget? Start with a smaller fish tank. It’s common sense that the bigger the fish tank is, the more it will cost you. And by a small fish tank I don’t mean a fish bowl. It is possible to buy an actual wall fish tank for a low budget.
  3. Shop on the internet. I’m a big fan of online shopping. By shopping online you can easily compare products and prices, giving you the chance to find what you want for the lowest price possible.
  4. Buy cheap fish! Just like wall fish tanks come in different prices, so do fish. Cheaper fish are easier to take care off. The more expensive fish are more difficult to take care of. And when you lose one, it’ll only hurt you more.

I know it’s difficult to find what you want if you have a low budget. But keeping these tips in the back of your mind when shopping for a wall fish tank should help you get a long way,
